u/SemiLazyGamer has leaked the alleged status of the sequel game on Reddit. The user obtained the information from a developer named Jonathan Murphy's LinkedIn profile. Murphy went into detail for the section containing his work experience at Creatures Inc., where he's worked for the last five years as the Development Division Senior Programmer. "Using Unity/C#, worked on one unannounced project and one nearing release, Detective Pikachu 2," Murphy wrote. Announced for the Nintendo Switch at the Pokémon 2019 Press Conference in Tokyo, there has been radio silence for three years surrounding the follow-up title. However, the recent leak alleges the game could be almost finished.

The long-awaited Pokémon Detective Pikachu sequel has found its director.

As reported by Deadline, Jonathan Krisel is in negotiations with Legendary Pictures to helm the sequel to the 2019 hit. Krisel is primarily known for his work in television comedy, having co-created and directed episodes of IFC's Portlandia and FX's Baskets. He has also directed episodes of Kroll Show, Man Seeking Woman and segments on Saturday Night Live and Funny or Die Presents. He was announced to make his feature directorial debut in 2019 with the third Sesame Street film, but there hasn't been any news on the project since then.
